Disclosed is a positive electrode active material for a lithium battery with which a packing density can be increased, power output characteristics can be increased, and also reduction in voltage at the time of charging and storing at a high temperature is small. Specifically disclosed is a positive electrode active material for a lithium battery containing a spinel-type (Fd3-m) lithium transition metal oxide represented by general formula: Li 1+x M 2-x O 4-δ (wherein M represents a transition metal including Mn, Al, and Mg; x is from 0.01 to 0.08; and 0 ≤ δ) and a boron compound, wherein the atomic distance between Li and O in the spinel-type lithium transition metal oxide is from 1.971 Ǻ to 2.006 Ǻ, and the amount of magnetically attracted substances measured for the positive electrode active material for a lithium battery is 600 ppb or less. |
