abstract |
Provided is a vertical alignment type liquid crystal display apparatus in which it is possible to prevent a black indication from being colored due to extraneous light and which has a high front contrast, a low color shift, and good viewing angle characteristics. A vertical alignment type liquid crystal display apparatus comprises a first optical film which is arranged between a vertical alignment type liquid crystal cell and a polarizer, and a second optical film which is arranged between a polarizer provided on the rear surface side and the liquid crystal cell. The first optical film and the second optical film are optically biaxial. The first optical film has a smaller phase difference Ro in the in-plane direction and a larger phase difference Rth in the thickness direction, than the second optical film. The second optical film has a larger phase difference Ro in the in-plane direction and a smaller phase difference Rth in the thickness direction, than the first optical film. The wavelength dispersion of the first optical film is different from the wavelength dispersion of the second optical film. |
