Disclosed is an organic inorganic composite material that has high activity and high selectivity, causes no significant elution of an active metal from a carrier and is suitable as a catalyst material. Also disclosed is an organic silicon compound suitable for the production of the composite material. The composite material is an organic inorganic composite material comprising an organic silicon compound, in which two or more groups containing a reactive silicon at a molecular end are bonded to one silicon atom constituting the organic silicon compound, and an inorganic oxide, wherein the organic silicon compound and the inorganic oxide have been bonded to each other through the group containing the plurality of reactive silicons in the organic silicon compound.
