A honeycomb structure having high thermal shock resistance. The honeycomb structure is characterized in that it comprises columnar honeycomb sinters which each has many cells arranged in parallel in the lengthwise direction and separated by cell walls and which have been united together through an adhesive layer and that the adhesive layer has pores, the pores having a pore diameter of 300 µm or smaller. It is further characterized in that in a photograph of a section of the adhesive layer, the proportion of the total area of pores having a pore diameter of 50-300 µm and an aspect ratio of 1-1.5 to the total area of pores having a pore diameter of 50-300 µm is 90% or higher. |
