abstract |
Disclosed is a process for producing an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) composition containing less than 10 parts by weight of an alcohol and 20 to 100 parts by weight of water relative to 100 parts by weight of EVOH. The process comprises the steps of: supplying a solution of EVOH in an alcohol having 4 or less carbon atoms to a column-type apparatus, wherein the solution contains 300 parts by weight or more of the alcohol relative to 100 parts by weight of EVOH; contacting the solution with water; drawing a part of the alcohol out of the apparatus together with water, thereby producing a mixed solution of EVOH in water and the alcohol which contains 10 to 200 parts by weight of the alcohol and 50 to 200 parts by weight of water relative to 100 parts by weight of EVOH; contacting the solution with water while agitating the solution in an agitation vessel; and drawing a part or the whole of the alcohol out of the vessel together with water, thereby producing the EVOH composition. The process enables an alcohol contained in a solution of EVOH in the alcohol to be replaced by water efficiently to produce an EVOH composition having a low water content. |
