abstract Disclosed is a fluoranthene compound having a specific asymmetric structure. Also disclosed is an organic EL device wherein an organic compound layer composed of one or more sublayers including at least a light-emitting sublayer is interposed between a pair of electrodes and at least one sublayer of the organic compound layer contains the fluoranthene compound. Further disclosed is an organic EL material-containing solution which contains the fluoranthene compound and a solvent as an organic EL material. The organic electroluminescent (EL) device has high emission luminance, high luminous efficiency and long life, and a compound represented by the formula (1) below enables to realize such an organic electroluminescent (EL) device. (In the formula, X1-X12 are as defined in claim 1.)
