abstract Disclosed is an excellently productive method for producing a biphenyl derivative with a commercially high yield by using a raw material which is low in cost and toxicity. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing a biphenyl derivative represented by the general formula (1) below, which is characterized in that a chlorine atom in a benzene derivative represented by the general formula (2) below is reacted with magnesium metal and converted into a Grignard reagent, and then the Grignard reagent is subjected to a coupling reaction in the presence of a catalyst and dichloropropane. (In the formulae, A represents at least one selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, alkoxymethyl groups, a vinyl group, a phenyl group and chlorine; and n represents an integer of 1-4.)
