titleOfInvention Process for producing 2-adamantanol and 2-adamantanone
abstract A process by which 2-adamantanol and 2-adamantanone can be selectively and efficiently produced from 1-adamantanol, without using sulfuric acid, in an extraordinarily short time in an environmentally less harmful manner while inhibiting the generation of by-products (heavy matters). [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The process for producing 2-adamantanol and 2-adamantanone comprises using at least one acid catalyst selected from Lewis acids and solid acids and, coexistent therewith, at least one compound selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acids, sulfonic acids, and phosphoric acids to produce 2-adamantanol and 2-adamantanone from 1-adamantanol, and is characterized in that adamantane is caused to coexist in the production.
