A toothpaste composition characterized by containing (A) from 0.3 to 1.2% by mass of at least one linear and water-soluble polyphosphate represented by the general formula Mn+2PnO3n+1 (wherein M represents Na or K; and n is an integer of 2 or 3), (B) from 0.1 to 2.0% by mass of a methyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer a 2.0% by mass aqueous solution of which has a viscosity of from 5 to 1000 mPa·s at 25oC and pH7.0, (C) from 0.6 to 2.0% by mass of a laurylsulfate, and (D) from 0.2 to 1.0% by mass of a betaine type amphoteric surfactant, and the composition ratio by mass (C)/(D) ranging from 1 to 4. This toothpaste composition little irritates the oral mucosa, shows favorable foaming in using and has an excellent effect of preventing the adhesion of stains to tooth surface. |
