Provided are a dispersion of titanium oxide particles which can be used for quickly forming a highly pure and dense organic thin film and can be a material for forming a titanium oxide thin film; a titanium oxide thin film formed from the dispersion; a solution for forming an organic functional film which is prepared by adding a solution of a metal compound having a hydrolyzable group to the dispersion; a substrate provided with an organic functional film which is produced by using the solution; and a method for producing the substrate. The above-described dispersion of titanium oxide particles is prepared by adding water to an organic solvent solution of a titanium chelate compound, wherein a hydrolyzable or hydroxyl group and a chelate ligand are bonded to a titanium atom, in a molar amount of five or more times the molar amount of the titanium chelate compound; the above-described titanium oxide thin film is formed by bringing the dispersion into contact with the surface of a substrate made of a plastic or the like; the above-described solution for forming an organic functional film is prepared by adding the dispersion to an organic solvent solution of a metal compound having a hydrolyzable group; and the above-described substrate has an organic functional film which is formed from such a solution for forming an organic functional film. |
