The invention relates to novel polymeric polysulphides with mercapto end groups and additional ether groups, which may be produced by reaction of formaldehyde with a monomeric dihydroxyalkyl terminated disulphide, etherification of the OH groups with epichlorohydrin or an alkenyl halide, in particular, an allyl halide and reaction of the ether obtained with hydrogen sulphide or a dimercaptan. The invention further relates to the corresponding intermediates. The products obtained may be produced with good uniformity, reproducibly and at high reaction rate. The above are particularly suitable for the production of sealing materials and chemically-resistant coatings such as, for example, insulation glazing sealants and joint sealing strips and high-grade coatings. |
