The invention relates to an identified sequence of approximately 1.7 kilobases, comprising the promoter of the BRANCHED 1 gene of Arabidopsis thaliana, which can specifically regulate the axillary expression, but not the apical expression, of a particular gene. The aforementioned sequence can be used in order to genetically manipulate plants and to obtain plants having a modified plant architecture owing to an alteration in the growth or development of the axillary meristems thereof, for example, by promoting or inhibiting the development of the axillary meristems and/or replacing branches with flowers. |
