[PROBLEMS] To provide a periodontal disease marker by which periodontal disease can be detected and periodontal disease and a generalized disease can be diagnosed. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A periodontal disease marker comprising a cysteine protease produced by P. gingivalis. This cysteine protease is a gingipain comprising Arg-gingipain that has a peptide bond-cleaving specificity in the C-terminal side of an arginine residue and Lys-gingipain that has a peptide bond-cleaving specificity in the C-terminal side of a lysine residue. |
