Device, kit and method for generating and transporting wet biological samples |
abstract |
A kit for generating and transporting a biological sample of a secreted biological fluid, the kit including an absorbent pad (10) for placing adjacent to the portion of the body and a portable device (12) for preserving and/or pre-processing the wet sample. The pad (10) includes a sampling membrane (16) configured to retain at least one biological material. The pad (10) can also be configured with a pouch (102) to prevent the unintentional removal of the membrane (16) from the pad (10), wherein the membrane (16) has a tail extending beyond the pouch to be used by the user to remove the pad (10) from the pouch (102) when appropriate. The pad (10) also preferable includes a sample detection grid (98) to help the user determine when a sufficient amount of sample has been collected. The portable device (12) has a housing (30) formed from a base portion and lid portion which together define a sealable sample chamber (14) for receiving the sampling membrane (16). An injector device (34) can be configured to be activated by closing of the lid (32) portion to inject a substance into the sample chamber (14). |
