abstract A substrate treatment composition comprising a particulate substrate treating agent (other than precipitated calcium carbonate), wherein the particles of the substrate treating agent, such as silica, organosilane, aluminium oxide or hydroxide have a broad range of diameters and include at least some particles with a diameter greater than 0.9 νm and at least some particles with a diameter less than 0.5 νm. Suitable substrates include paper, fabrics, plastics and glass which are subsequently printed on.
