Method for coating webs |
abstract |
A method for coating of a fibrous web, e.g. a paper according to which ancoating colour with pigments is applied to the surface of the web and dried innorder to form a coated web. The invention comprises using a coating colour which containsnpigments having a steep particle size distribution, a maximum of 35 % of the pigmentnparticles being smaller than 0.5 µm. The coating colour is spread on the surface of the webnwith a coating speed of at least 1450 m/min, preferably over 1600 m/min. The coatingnpigment having a steep particle size distribution gives rise to a coating colour whichnsolidifies at much lower dry substance than conventional coating colours. In this wayncoating can be controlled at high speed without runnability and quality problems.nThe coating colours according to the invention can be used for singlencoating or as so called pre-coat and surface-coat colours. Preferablynthe material is double-coated, first with a precoating and then with ansurface coating, whereby both coating colours contain pigments having ansteep particle size distribution. |
