abstract A process for production of an allyloxy carboxylic acid. The process comprises reacting a lactone, such as β-propiolactone, η-butyrolactone, δ-valerolactone, ε-caprolactone, z-enantholactone or a derivative thereof, with at least one allyl halide in an alkaline medium at a charged molar ratio lactone to allyl halide of 1 to at least 1. The alkaline medium is in said process present at a molar ratio allyl halide to alkaline medium of 1 to at least 1 or preferably more than 1. In a further aspect, the present invention refers to an allyloxy carboxylic acid produced by said process and in yet a further aspect to the use of an allyloxy carboxylic acid produced by the process as component in oligomeric and polymeric compounds, such as resins and binders.
