abstract Provided is a separator for a nonaqueous electrolyte battery, which includes a porous substrate and an adhesive porous layer that is provided on at least one side of the porous substrate and contains an adhesive resin. The separator has a pore size distribution such that, as measured by a pore size distribution measurement test, the pore size at the maximum value of the maximum peak is within a range of 0.02 μm to 0.1 μm, and the pore size distribution range value ε defined as follows is 0.4 or less. The pore size distribution range value ε herein is a value calculated by the following equation from pore sizes D 90 , D 10 , and D 50 corresponding to cumulative pore size distributions of 90%, 10%, and 50%, respectively:n npore size distribution range value ε=( D 90− D 10 )/ D 50.
