abstract The invention relates to benzoylguanidines of the formula I: <IMAGE> (I) to pharmaceutically acceptable salts of these compounds and to a process for preparing compounds of the formula I, which comprise reacting a compound of the formula II <IMAGE> (II) with guanidine. The compounds of the invention are suitable as antiarrhythmic pharmaceuticals having a cardioprotective component for the prophylaxis and treatment of infarction and for the treatment of angina pectoris.
