Wholly aromatic mesomorphic polyesters which form a liquid-crystalline fiber-forming melt below 320° C. and are composed of n (a) not less than 10 mol % of repeat units of the formula I ##STR1## (b) a molar amount equivalent to the total amount of components (c) and (d) of repeat units of the formula II ##STR2## (c) from 3 to 20 mol % of repeat units of the formulae III and/or IV ##STR3## and (d) from 5 to 30 mol % of repeat units of the formula V ##STR4## the molar proportions of components a, b, c and d adding up to 100 mol % in each case, the preparation thereof and moldings and coatings prepared therefrom. |
