abstract Oxonol, benzylidene and cinnamylidene dyes derived from cyanomethylsulfone compounds are useful as filter dyes, especially for photographic elements. They absorb primarily in the blue region of the spectrum. Bis(methylsulfonylacetonitrile)trimethine oxonol, sodium salt; 2p-dimethylaminobenzylidene-2-methylsulfonylacetonitrile and 2-pdimethylaminocinnamylidene-2-methylsulfonylacetonitrile are illustrative of the filter dyes of the invention.
