abstract The invention relates to a method ( 800 ), a sytem ( 100 ) and a device ( 102 ) for measuring the number of laps and/or the distance covered by a person during his/her performance. The invention relates particularly to a distance meter ( 102 ) to be worn by the user, which measures the distance covered by the object and comprises a magnetic sensor ( 212 ) for determining the direction of a magnetic field ( 304 ) external to the sensor relative to the sensor ( 212 ). The distance meter ( 102 ) to be worn by the user in accordance with the invention also comprises a counter ( 207 ), whose value is increased when the measured deviation of the magnetic field exceeds a preset limit, i.e. in the situation where a fitness trainer following a given track turns and starts moving into another direction on the track.
