abstract The present invention provides a method and apparatus for measuring the thickness of a film in a solar cell to direct light of multiple emission wavelengths to the surface of the solar cell. Each of the emitted wavelengths of light produces a corresponding photocurrent. The galvanometer has a contact coupled to the surface of the solar cell and another contact coupled to the other surface of the solar cell to read the photocurrent. After confirming the photocurrent generated by each of the different emission wavelengths of light, the film thickness in the solar cell can be calculated by two photocurrents or corresponding quantum effects. In one embodiment, the film thickness is the thickness of the CdS in the solar cell, or the thickness of other buffer films.
