abstract Disclosed is a method for storing a target comprising a rare earth metal or an oxide thereof. The method is characterized in that an oxide of the same rare earth metal as one contained in the target to be stored is introduced, as a desiccant, into a storage container or a film-like sealing material for storing the target therein, the storage container or the film-like sealing material is sealed, and the sealed storage container or the sealed film-like sealing material is stored. It becomes possible to provide a technique which enables the storage of a target comprising a rare earth metal or an oxide thereof for a long period by devising a method for storing the target so as to prevent the oxidation of the target upon the penetration of air or the dusting of the target caused by the hydroxylation of the target.
