titleOfInvention | PROCEDURE FOR THE PREPARATION OF (2-METOXYETENYL) NITROBENZENES |
abstract | In the prepn. of 2 and 4 substit. alkoxy ethenyl benzenes and alkoxy ethyl benzenes, 0- or p- halonitrobenzene is reacted with at least an equiv. of alkyl ether in presence of a trialkylamine and a Pd catalyst. Pref. the catalyst is part. Pd acetate or Pd or carbon. The reaction is carried out at 80-140 pref. 100-120 deg.C. for 10-20 hrs. at pressure with equiv. quant. of pref. triethylanine or tributylamine. The pref. halogens are Br and I. Treatment of the initial reaction prod. with aqueous acid and triethanolamine to enable sepn. of the unwanted 2-aryl vinyl ether is also claimed. The method gives improved yield of intermediates in the synthesis of the beta blocker metoprolol. Provisional Basic previously advised in Week E23). |
