abstract FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: melting unit has melting chamber-crucible comprising casing, lined walls and bottom, induction heater and mixer, device adapted for bottom draining of melt from melting chamber- crucible and provided with tapping hole having closure. Melting unit is further provided with cover having process openings and positioned on melting chamber-crucible, and side metal discharge device provided with tapping hole and arranged under inductor of induction heater and mixer. Inductor coils are arranged at an angle with respect to melting chamber-crucible walls depending on size of side discharge device. Additional induction mixer is made in the form of magnetic hydrodynamic device arranged on melting chamber-crucible bottom around tapping hole, whose axis is aligned with axis of cover central opening closed with shutter. Melting unit is suitable for performing various metallurgical processes, in particular, for melting of ferrous and nonferrous metal scrap, melting of metals from oxide- containing burden, as well as for extracting vanadium from vanadium-containing iron. Melting unit may be used as intermediate ladle of horizontal continuous blank casting machine. Upon feeding of metal into crystallizer, metal is additionally cleaned from non-metal inclusions.
