abstract | FIELD: polymerization processes and catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is prepared by bringing magnesium metal into contact with organic halide RX wherein R represents organic group containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms and X halogen atom to form soluble product I, to which silicon compound containing alkoxy or aryloxy group is added to form solid product II, which is finally treated with titanium tetrachloride and electronodonor compound. When using this catalyst in polymerization process, round-shaped polyolefin particles are obtained with length-to-diameter ratio below 1.5 and good flowability.
