abstract | 1. A method of applying a fluoropolymer-containing coating to a substrate, the method comprises the following sequential steps: a) obtaining a solid mixture containing one or more fluoropolymers and one or more thermoplastic polymers that are thermally stable at temperatures above 400 ° C; b) melt mixing and extruding said solid mixture at a temperature of from about 250 to about 400 ° C. to achieve homogeneity; c) mechanical processing of the extrudate to obtain a powder with an average particle size of up to about 100 μm; d) on carrying said powder onto said substrate; ii) heating said substrate to a temperature sufficient to cause said powder to become sufficiently fluid to coat said substrate. The method according to claim 1, wherein said fluoropolymers are selected from the group consisting of PTFE (PTFE) (polytetrafluoroethylene), copolymers of TFE (tetrafluoroethylene) (TFE) with comonomers such as PMVE (PMVE) (perfluoromethylvinyl ether), PPVE (PPVE) (perfluoropropyl vinyl ether), HFP (HFP) (hexafluoropropylene), ethylene, CTFE (CTFE) (chlorotrifluoroethylene) and combinations of the above comonomers. 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein said thermoplastic polymers are selected from the group consisting of polyethersulfones ((PES) (PES)), polyarylsulfones ((PAS) (PAS)), polyphenyl sulfide ((PPS) (PPS)), polyether ether ketones (( PEEK) (PEEK)), polyimides ((PI) (PI)) and polyamidimides ((PAI) (PAI)). 4.
