titleOfInvention | Detection of nucleic acid markers in urine using DNA methylation analysis |
abstract | The invention relates to means and methods for detecting or determining the level of nucleic acid in urine of a human subject, the method comprising the steps of collecting nucleic acid from a sample of at least 10 ml, preferably at least 20 ml of urine of said subject, processing the sample to isolate cell free nucleic acid enriched for fragments of 150 nucleic acid bases or less, and determining whether the enriched nucleic acid comprises methylated nucleic acid of the SEPTlN-9 gene or a promoter region thereof and methylated nucleic acid of the SDC2 gene or a promoter region thereof. The means and methods may be used to arrive at a diagnosis of colorectal cancer, colorectal metastasis, recurrent colorectal cancer or a combination thereof in the human subject. The invention further relates to methods of treatment of human subjects with colorectal cancer, colorectal metastasis, recurrent colorectal cancer or a combination thereof comprising using the means and methods. |
