Materials and methods are described for making dry cathode electrode films with reduced binder content. The cathode electrode film may be a self-supporting film including a single binder. The binder loading may be up to 3% by weight. In the first aspect, forming an active material mixture by non-destructively mixing a cathode active material, porous carbon, and optionally conductive carbon, adding a single fibrillable binder to the active material mixture, and non-destructively mixing the electrode A method of manufacturing a dry free standing electrode film for an energy storage device is provided, including forming a film mixture, and calendering the electrode film mixture to form a free standing electrode film. |
