abstract |
The trunk piston marine engine lubricant is preferably selected from the group consisting of (A) an overbased metal hydrocarbyl-substituted hydroxybenzoate detergent system, and (B) a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic anhydride, preferably a halogen- or radical- Hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic anhydrides prepared by the co-activating process and having a ratio of succinic anhydride groups to hydrocarbyl chains ranging from 1.4 to 4. The lubricant represents improved control of asphaltene precipitation and deposition on the engine surface when heavy fuel oil is used to lubricate the engine being fueled. |
