abstract An epoxy resin and an epoxy resin composition which give a cured product having high heat resistance and excellent water absorption and electrical characteristics. The epoxy resin is obtained by reacting naphthol and cresol with aldehyde, and the ratio of? -Naphthol in the naphthol when the naphthol and cresol are reacted with aldehyde is 1 to 10% by weight. The naphthol-cresol novolak phenol resin By glycidylation. The naphthol-cresol novolak type phenolic resin has a weight ratio of naphthol to cresol of 65:35 to 85:15 when naphthol and cresol are reacted with aldehyde, and the obtained naphthol-cresol novolak type phenol resin has a softening point of 100 Deg.] C to 150 [deg.] C.
