titleOfInvention | An enzyme transesterification method using a lipase immobilized on a hydrophobic resin in the presence of an aqueous solution |
abstract | The present invention relates to an enzyme batch or continuous process for the production of fatty acid alkyl esters for use in the biofuel, food, and detergent industries and systems thereof. The method utilizes an enzyme immobilized on a hydrophobic resin mixed with an aliphatic acid source and an alcohol or alcohol donor in the presence of an alkaline or weakly alkaline aqueous buffer or in the presence of water or an aqueous solution. The preparation process for fatty acid alkyl esters is carried out simultaneously or sequentially by ester exchange or esterification. The biocatalytic activity is maintained without large loss of activity in multiple uses and also prevents accumulation of glycerol and water by-products or other hydrophilic compounds on the biocatalyst. |
