titleOfInvention Aluminum alloy composition with improved elevated temperature mechanical properties
abstract The aluminum alloy includes, by weight, 0.50-1.30% Si, 0.2-0.60% Fe, up to 0.15% Cu, 0.5-0.90% Mn, 0.6-1.0% Mg, and up to 0.20% Cr, The balance is aluminum and inevitable impurities. The alloy may comprise excess Mg in excess of the amount that the Mg-Si precipitate can occupy. The alloy may be utilized as a matrix material for composites comprising filler material dispersed in the matrix material. One such composite may include boron carbide as the fill material and the resulting composite may be used for neutron shielding applications.
