abstract PURPOSE:To measure organic acid in citrus handily in a short time, by using a test piece for measuring the concentration of organic acid in citrus with a pH indicator, basic substance and a surfactant supported on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A pH indicator employs those having a discoloring range near neutrality such as bromothymol blue, methyl red, phenol purple and chlorophenol red in a single or mixed form. A basic substance herein used is that low in buffering property such as potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, potassium carbonate and sodium carbonate. A surfactant herein used is a non-ion based surfactant twin 2, a twin 60, triton X 100 or the like. These components are supported on a carrier such as cellulose fiber filter, synthetic fiber filter paper, wood piece, cloth, non-woven cloth, synthetic film or paper or applied on the surface of the carrier by coating or printing to obtain a test piece for measuring the concentration of organic acid in citrus.
