titleOfInvention Ophthalmic sustained release preparation
abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled preparation having excellent local affinity, controlling action on release of drug, capable of maintaining medicinal effects for a long time, by dispersing particles of a high polymer of specific properties into a water-soluble high polymer. CONSTITUTION:One or more of ophthalmic remedying active substances (e.g. beta-adrenergic blocker such as timolol or befunolol) are dispersed into a base for preparation. The base is obtained by dispersing granules comprising a water- insoluble high polymer (e.g. methyl cellulose), a high polymer (e.g. polyglycolic acid) decomposable in organisms or a high polymer soluble in a limited pH range (soluble at pH 4-6) into a water-soluble high polymer. In pharmaceutical preparation, the dispersion is molded into a filmy, sheet-like or disclike solid substance or a gelatinous or ointment semisolid.
