abstract | Diseases and symptoms associated with body (eg, eye) tissues can be effectively treated, prevented, suppressed, delayed onset, or ameliorated by administering therapeutic agents to those tissues. Described herein are solid drug delivery systems and methods for providing sustained delivery of therapeutic agents to such tissues. A solid drug delivery system can be placed on a patient, for example, between or via the sclera. The methods described herein are used to administer rapamycin to treat or prevent angiogenesis, choroidal neovascularization, age-related macular degeneration, or wet age-related macular degeneration in a patient. Solid drug delivery systems can include rapamycin or other therapeutic agents. Further described is a method of treating an eye disease or condition by administering a growth inhibitor, such as rapamycin, in the vicinity of the eyepiece. |
