USE:A synthetic intermediate for agricultural chemicals and liquid crystal compounds. PREPARATION:A dl-4''-(1-acetoxyethyl)terphenyl shown by formula II is asymmetrically hydrolyzed with esterase in a buffer solution at 10-60 deg.C for 10-70hr by vigorous stirring to give a compound shown by formula I.
