titleOfInvention Water-in-oil type water-swellable polymer emulsion
abstract PURPOSE: To provide the titled emulsion small in the particle size, homogeneously dispersed in high stability, easy to convey by pump because of the low viscosity, outstanding in mechanical processability, comprising a polymer from water-soluble vinyl monomer and crosslinking agent, organic dispersion medium, and surfactant(s). n CONSTITUTION: The objective emulsion with an average particle size ≤10μm can be obtained by blending (A) 25W45wt% of a polymer prepared by radical polymerization between a water-soluble vinyl monomer and crosslinking agent in the form of aqueous solution, (B) 20W50wt% of an organic dispersion medium, (C) 0.5W5wt% of a hydrophobic surfactant with a HLB 3W6, and (D) 0W5wt% of a hydrophilic surfactant with a HLB ≥10. The monomer in the component A are pref. acrylic acid or acrylamide, the crosslinking agent and the component C being pref. N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide and sorbitan monooleate, respectively. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
