abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R 1 is lower alkyl, (substituted) phenyl or aralkyl; R 2 WR 5 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy (carbonyl) or (lower alkoxycarbonyl) lower alkenyl, provided that adjacent either two of R 2 WR 5 are terminally linked each other to form methylenedioxy and others are H] or salt thereof. n EXAMPLE: 6-Chloro-3-methyl-spiro[1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinazoline-4,4'-imidazolidine] -2,2',5'-trione-2. n USE: A preventive and treating agent having aldose.reductase-inhibitory action for various chromic symptons accompanied by diabetes. n PREPARATION: A compound expressed by formula II (R 6 is lower alkyl) is reacted with an amine compound (salt) expressed by the formula R 1 NH 2 , as necessary, followed by converting resultant product into salt thereof.
