abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title dispersant which is composed of a copolymer containing the units of the salt of sulfonated styrene and the units of maleate salt in the molecular chain, being capable of homogeneously dispersing particles of inorganic pigments in an aqueous medium, thus being suitable for water-based pigments, water-based coatings and water-based inks. n CONSTITUTION: The objective dispersant is composed of a copolymer which contains, in its molecular chain, at least a combination of a unit of the salt of sulfonated styrene of formula I (M 1 is Na, K, 1/2Ca, NH 4 , organic amino) with another unit of maleate salt of formula II (M 2 and M 3 have the same meaning as M 1 ).
