titleOfInvention Selective production of 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance in high selectivity, by alkylating 2- methylnaphthalene with a 2W4C alcohol or olefin as an alkylating agent in the presence of a solid acid catalyst having pores with an effective pore diameter of a specific value or above. n CONSTITUTION: 2-Methylnaphthalene and a 2W4C alcohol or olefin are passed through a reaction vessel filled with a solid acid catalyst having ≥10Å effective pore diameter at 250W350°C to afford the titled substance useful as an intermediate for heat-resistant resin raw materials. Not only zeolite (e.g. ZSM-5) but also amorphous substance, such as alumina or silica-alumina, having a large pore diameter can be used as the solid acid catalyst. Such solid acid catalyst is preferably subjected to stabilization treatment with steam or mixed with other solids and molded. Since the selectivity is high, the aimed substance is readily separated and the unreacted raw material can be recovered for reuse. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
