abstract | PURPOSE: To produce the subject dialkylnaphthalene in an excellent yield by, in a reaction of a (2-alkyl)naphthalene with an alkylating agent in the presence of a porous solid acid catalyst, applying a simple pretreatment to the above- mentioned catalyst for inhibiting production of by-products. n CONSTITUTION: In production of dialkylnaphthalenes by reacting naphthalene or a 2-alkylnaphthalene with an alkylating in the presence of a porous solid acid catalyst, the above-mentioned catalyst is pretreated with a basic organic compound having ≥6Å molecular diameter, preferably a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound such as dimethylquinoline, dimethylisoquinoline, tetramethylpyridine or trimethylpyridine at 250-600°C to selectively obtain the objective compounds. In addition, the above-mentioned compounds are useful as a starting raw material for synthesis of a naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, etc., used for production of a polyester or a polyamide. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO&Japio |
