titleOfInvention Production of arsenous acid having high purity
abstract PURPOSE: To improve the purity of arsenous acid in the process comprising the heat-treatment in the presence of an aqueous solution of cupric sulfate, aeration in the presence of copper ion, and reduction of the product, by inserting an activated carbon treatment procedure before the reduction step. n CONSTITUTION: (i) A composition containing arsenic sulfide is heat-treated in an aqueous solution of cupric sulfide at about 80W90°C, cooled to room temperature, separated into solid and liquid, and the solid component is repulped to obtain a slurry. (ii) The slurry is stirred in the presence of ≥1g/l of copper ion at about ≥80°C to convert the arsenic to arsenic acid, and treated for about ≥1hr in the presence of about ≥10g/l of activated carbon (finer than about 65 mesh). (iii) The treated product is filtered, and the filtrate [an aqueous solution of arsenic acid having an Sb/As (g/l) ratio of about ≤0.25×10 -3 ] is made to react with a reducing agent (e.g. So 2 ). The produced precipirate is collected to obtain high-purity arsenous acid. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1986,JPO&Japio
