titleOfInvention Manufacture of arsenious acid
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain arsenious acid anhydride of high purity at a low cost by carrying out aeration in the presence of copper ions when arsenic is shifted from a substance contg. arsenic sulfide to an aqueous soln. contg. copper sulfate by extraction and by reducing the resulting arsenic acid. n CONSTITUTION: A substance contg. arsenic sulfide is added to an aqueous soln. of copper sulfate, arsenic is extracted while stirring the soln., and simultaneously aeration is carried out in the presence of ≥1g/l copper ions. By the aeration most of arsenious acid is oxidized to arsenic acid. After filtering out the extraction residue, a weak reducing agent is added to the filtrate to reduce the arsenic acid in the soln. to arsenious acid, and arsenious acid anhydride is precipitated and recovered. It is considered that the copper ions act as a catalyst, yet excess copper ions stick to the arsenious acid anhydride as an impurity. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
