titleOfInvention Flame-retardant abs resin composition
abstract PURPOSE:To produce the titled composition moldable without causing the decomposition of flame-retardant, generation of toxic gas and discoloration of the material, etc., by compounding specific amounts of red phosphorus, melamine and a thermally crosslinkable and curable resin to an ABS resin containing p-methylsttyrene unit. CONSTITUTION:100 pts. (wt.) of an ABS resin containing 5-60 wt% p- methylstyrene unit is compounded with (A) 5-30 pts., preferably 10-20 pts. of fine particles of red phosphorus surface-treated with a thermosetting resin, (B) 5-30 pts., preferably 10-20 pts. of melamine and (C) 3-30 pts., preferably 5-15 pts. of a thermally crosslinkable and curable resin (e.g. resol phenolic resin containing 3-15wt% methylol group, polyacrylonitrile, etc.). The ABS resin can be produced either by substituting one or more styrene monomer units in the polymer chain of an ABS resin with p-methylstyrene or by blending an ABS resin with a p-methylstyrene (co)polymer.
