abstract | PURPOSE: Methyl benzyldioxopiperazinylacetate is brought into contact with hydrochloric acid is followed by allowing the product to crystallize out of the reaction system in the form of its hydrochloride to enable high-efficiency and high-yield production of the titled compound. n CONSTITUTION: Methyl 5-benzyl-3,6-dioxo-2-piperazinylacetate, as a starting material is brought into contact with hydrochloric acid, when necessary, in the presence of methanol, preferably at 10W60°C to crystallize out the objective compound in the form of its hydrochloride. Further, when needed, the hydrochloride is neutralized with an alkali such as sodium hydroxide. The hydrochloric acid is used in the form of an aqueous solution and its concentration is 5W30wt%.
