NEW MATERIAL:The liquid crystal compound of formula (R is ≤20C alkyl or alkoxy; R* is optically active group containing asymmetric carbon; m and n are natural numbers; when m and n are 1, the carbon number of R is ≥7). n EXAMPLE: p-n-Decyloxybenzoic acid p'-(2-methylbutoxycarbonyl)phenyl ester. n USE: A liquid crystal composition stable to water and light and exhibiting ferroelectric liquid crystal phase. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula is prepared by reacting a p-hydroxybenzoic acid ester containing optically active group (e.g. 2-methylbutyl, 3-methylpentyl, etc.) with acid halide of the corresponding p-alkoxy or alkylbenzoic acid, etc. in a basic solvent (e.g. pyridine). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
