titleOfInvention Synthetic method of organic compound containing oxygen
abstract PURPOSE:To prepare a compound containing oxygen, e.g. methanol or methyl formate, directly from carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the liquid phase at a relatively low temperature, by using a catalyst consisting of a nickel compound and an alkali metallic alkoxide in combination. CONSTITUTION:Carbon monoxide is reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a nickel compound and an alkali metallic alkoxide to give an organic compound containing oxygen. A combination of nickel chloride with sodium-t-butocide or biscyclooctadienylnickel with potassium-t-butoxide may be cited as the catalyst. The suitable selection of the reaction gas composition and temperature in the reaction provides either one of methyl formate or methanol in high selectivity. Methanol can be synthesized in the liquid phase.
