titleOfInvention Preparation of glycidyl methacrylate
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as a raw material for baking coating powder readily in high yield in a short time while suppressing side reactions, by transesterification of methyl methacrylate with glycidol in the presence of a specific catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: Methyl methacrylate (M) is transesterified with glycidol (G) at a molar ratio of M to G ≥2:1 in the presence of 0.01W5wt% of one or two or more compounds selected from (A) an alkali metal hydroxide, e.g. KOH or LiOH, a carbonate, e.g. Na 2 CO 3 , a sulfide, e.g. K 2 S, a polysulfide, or thiosulfate, (B) a lithium halide, e.g. LiCl, and (C) an iodide of Na, K, Rb, or Cs, e.g. NaI, as a catalyst at 50W120°C to form glycidyl methacrylate. Preferably, one or more types of radical polymerization inhibitors, e.g. phenol, are added to the system. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
